You always hear about how the world these days is totally overrun by one-time use plastic,which is very detrimental to the environment, as well as animals and other inhabitants of this planet we live on, but you don’t hear about many individuals trying to cut back on their one-time plastic use.
Sure, there are a bunch of companies and brands out there that are reducing their plastic straw use and moving over to paper straws, but have you ever used a paper straw? They are absolutely disgusting. I would rather use no straw than have to use a paper straw.
After like 5 minutes of being submersed in liquid, the paper straws begin to disintegrate and fall apart to the point where you can’t even use them anymore.
There are some paper straws that have a liner inside that helps to prevent the decay of the straw itself, making it usable for longer, but I still find the straws have a very papery flavor to them, no matter what you’re drinking and no matter what type of paper straw you’re using. And it’s because of that, that if you really want to cut down on plastic straw use, you should really invest in a reusable straw that you can carry around with you.
What is a reusable straw?
A reusable straw is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a straw, usually made of metal or silicone, that you can easily carry around with you and use over and over again after washing it. This helps you to not have to use a single-use plastic straw every time you go out and have a beverage at a restaurant.
It’s basically the same idea as using a reusable water container, like a a Yeti Tumbler or a HydroFlask, but with straws. And unlike those reusable water containers, the straws are usually pretty cheap considering there’s not much to them.
Reusable straws mainly come in some form of metal, or stainless steel, and silicone. I’m sure there are other options out there, but when it comes to food-grade materials, you’re going to want to stick to something like stainless steel or silicone, just for the sanitary factor.
In some instances you can find reusable straws that come with their own carrying cases, which can easily attach to your purse or keychain so that they are with you whenever you may need them. I actually had never considered a reusable straw until I saw a friend of mine using one at the bar one night. She had it attached to her keys in a nice little carrying case and everything about it just seemed super convenient.

Best Cheap Reusable Straws
The first thing you should ask yourself when buying a reusable straw is whether you want stainless steel (metal) or silicone. Both of them are solid, in terms of being reusable and durable, so it’s really just a personal preference. They are both going to serve the same purpose, but some people may not like how the silicone ones feel in their mouths, or any slight hint of taste that the metal ones might give off. But either way, you’re going to be fine going with either silicone or metal when it comes to these straws, just pick whichever one appeals more to you.

The Eco-Pals collapsible, reusable straw is probably our favorite out of the bunch. It’s made of premium stainless steel and comes with a stylish carrying case and cleaning brush that also fits in the case. It is a little more expensive than some of the other ones, only because it comes with 1 straw as opposed to many (like some of the other packs mentioned above), but this is definitely the best designed of all of them.
Fully extended, the straw measures 9.25″, and when collapsed it measures 4″. It fits nicely into its own case that can easily hook onto your keychain or fit in your pocket. It also comes in a variety of cool colors, so you can get one that fits your personality.
